Samantha Agostino (Sam)
Designer + Director
Sam is an interior designer with a practice grounded in furniture, interiors and local production. Her interest in furniture design began while studying interior architecture, where working alongside renowned designer and maker Khai Liew shaped an early appreciation for the relationship between design, material and making.
With more than 15 years’ experience in custom furniture, Sam has developed a considered approach to translating ideas into well-resolved, functional pieces. Her work brings together architects, designers, craftspeople and specialist engineers, with an understanding of both the creative and technical processes required to take a piece from concept through to manufacture.
In 2026, Sam established Michi Australia with her partner, Will Matthews. Michi builds on this experience, creating a collaborative platform for custom furniture and considered production, with a strong connection to Australian design and local craftsmanship.
Will Matthews
Operations + Creative Director
Will brings a multidisciplinary background spanning graphic design, photography and information technology, alongside experience in CNC programming, prototyping, building, sound engineering and leather craftsmanship. His longstanding interest in making and creative practice gives him a practical and considered approach to both problem-solving and production.
At Michi, Will works across the operational and making sides of the studio. He brings a high level of care and attention to each project, balancing the practical requirements of production with a hands-on understanding of materials, processes and craftsmanship.
Together with Sam, Will plays an integral role in Michi’s owner-led approach, contributing to a studio where design, prototyping and making are closely connected.
